Mehmet Serkan Tosun

 

I am a Professor of Economics and Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Nevada, Reno. Iím also the recipient of the Barbara Smith Campbell Distinguished Professor of Nevada Tax Policy at UNR and have a number of other affiliations. Iím a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), Bonn, Germany, a research affiliate fellow of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing at the University of Oxford, a research fellow at the Economic Research Forum for Arab Countries, Iran and Turkey, and a fellow at the Global Labor Organization (GLO). I received my PhD in Economics from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. My research interests include public economics (public finance), economics of population and demography, political economy, growth and regional economics. I have done consulting for a number of national and international agencies, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA), the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. I have received Deanís Research Professorship Award from the UNR College of Business in 2013, was recognized as the Best Researcher of the Year in 2009 by the Nevada Alpha Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, and was the recipient of the Middle East Economic Associationís Ibn Khaldun Prize in 2005. I was the local organizer of the 72nd Annual Congress of the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF) which was held in Lake Tahoe in 2016, and the Anniversary Chair of the National Tax Associationís 100th Anniversary Conference in 2007.
